Why Should I Blog?

I've asked myself that question more times than I can count. Why should I write a blog? Would I really be that interesting? Do people care what I have to say? I'm still not sure what the answer is to any of those questions, but I know this: I just like to write. This is the third blog I've created over the last five years. The first two were fun, but life got in the way and both fell by the wayside. Even my writing fell by the wayside (this is why I have yet to publish my novel I've been working on.) for a long time, and until recently I wasn't sure I wanted to try to keep my dream of writing full time alive.

I got myself back on track after reading a couple books by two amazing women. The first was Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. (see my book review under the "My Reading List" tab)

I'm sure you've heard of this one by now, but it was seriously a life changer for me. I had a job I hated and was so upset at where my life was at that moment, but after reading her book it was like a switch went off. Why was I somewhere that made me feel terrible? I'm worth more than that! So I made a change. You won't regret picking up this book.

The second book is It's Your Universe: You Have the Power to Make It Happen by Ashley Eckstein. (see my book review under the "My Reading List" tab)

I have followed Ashley's career since the beginning of her fun fangirl clothing line Her Universe was started. She has an amazing perspective on turning your dream into a reality. I loved this book because it was interactive. Not only does she give advice, she also makes you stop and write down your dream and complete fun activities that help you move forward toward your goal. At that point I asked myself, what am I doing? Why not keep trying to fulfill my dream? And so, here I am.

Why do I blog? Here are the reasons:

  1. It's great writing exercise. Even if the audience consists of two people, it's still a great way to practice writing and have a place where you can express yourself in any way you want to. You are the boss. I like that.

  2. Experience. Every time I write; I hope that I can reach more people than I did the last time. And if each time a write, I reach one more person than I did before, it will give me the courage to keep going and write more. It gives me confidence to be able to say I've published original writing when I apply for a writing job.

  3. Writing is easier than talking. Well, for me it is anyway. Generally, I'm much better at communicating in writing than I am speaking to someone. You've heard the saying "think before you speak" right? I'm the opposite. I speak before I think and often that doesn't go over well. But when I write I can take my time and sound at least somewhat intelligent.

  4. It's fun. I like creating, making up stories, talking about the things that go on inside my head...will everyone else like it? Maybe. Those who do like it will stick around and those who don't will move along. If I'm having fun and your enjoying what I write, that's all that matters.

I use blogging as my creative outlet. It's something I find I need to do. There are thousands of blogs out there and it is so hard sometimes to keep writing because out of all those blogs, why choose me? But I do it anyway. I truly hope you find something to love here on my blog and website and that you keep coming back for more!

Keep reading... keep creating... keep writing...

Meredith
